Worship with Communion
Bethel’s current building was built in the early 1950s and one of the wonderful additions to the new church was the pipe organ built by the Schlicker Organ Company of Buffalo, New York. This company had gained recognition for its design of organs based on the tonal principles that were characteristic of the organs in Germany at the time of the great masters of the instrument. It especially lends itself to effective accompaniment of congregational singing. Two Organ Dedication Concerts were held once the organ was installed with E. Power Biggs at the organ.
Biggs was world renowned and needed no introduction to American musicians and listeners. For fifteen years, he had broadcast a weekly organ recital on Sundays over the CBS network. While in Minneapolis, he recorded two recitals on the Bethel organ which were aired on the 8th and 15th of September 1957. At the time that Biggs was at Bethel, the Third Assembly of the Lutheran World Federation was also in Minneapolis. Many visitors came to Bethel to hear the recitals and view the organ.
Paul Comnick has been Bethel's organist for 50+ years!
