Part-time Assistant Custodian

Job Description:

With direction and support from the Facilities Manager, the Assistant Custodian sweeps, mops, wipes down, cleans, and scrubs up the messes that our ministry makes on our grounds and in our building.  This person will assist in keeping our building and grounds clean and orderly, set up rooms for events and meetings, year-round grounds keeping (shovelling, mowing, etc.), and help with the security and safety of our building and its occupants.

 

Various hours per planned events within the building. Some regular hours - especially on weekends and weeknights.


Position begins as soon as possible.

Job Duties Include:

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager set up and clean up/put away necessary furniture, sound equipment, etc. for indoor/outdoor events that are scheduled (worship services, meetings, special events, weddings, etc.).

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager ensure cleanliness of sanctuary, offices, floors, restrooms, kitchen, classrooms, gym, etc.

  • Serve as building facilitator for groups using the church as the staff member on duty (unlocking doors, answering questions, etc.)

  • Monitor video camera periodically while on duty.

  • Perform minor repair jobs and report all maintenance, repair and equipment needs to the appropriate authority (Facilities Manager, Pastor, Tuesday Guys, Board of Administrators, etc.).

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager assist with outside duties such as mowing the lawn and labyrinth (including lawn trimming and blowing) and keeping the entirety of Bethel's property free of trash.

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager assist with the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks and entrances during the winter months.

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager water plants inside sanctuary and outside church weekly.

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager ensure proper humidity for the grand piano is maintained.

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager maintain and keep current all health and safety products throughout the building (fire extinguishers, first aid kits, mouse traps, and defibrillator).

  • Organize and maintain custodial office so that items are easily accessible.

  • Lock up and set building alarm when closing unless arrangements are made with another staff member or tenant. Monitor alarm, security calls from Securitas, and thermostats while on duty.

  • Inform Facilities Manager when required janitorial supplies such as soap, toilet paper, floor wax, paper towels, tissue, light bulbs, kitchen paper supplies, etc., need replenishing.

  • As needed, organize contributions for the Little Free Pantry and maintain cleanliness of its indoor and outdoor spaces.

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager, keep the message on the outdoor sign on 42d Street current.

  • Assist with other duties as required/requested by the Facilities Manager and Pastor.
